Frank Gehry-Hotel Marqués de Riscal

The Hotel Marqués de Riscal in Elciego, Spain was was commissioned by the Marqués de Riscal Winery and was designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry. Mr. Gehry also designed Spain's famed Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.

The hotel is located in the Rioja wine region. It has spectacular views of the vineyards and the town of Elciego. You can enjoy the vistas from any of the hotels eight terraces. Gehry's trademark waves of titanium and mirror-finish stainless steel on the outer surface shade each room from sunlight without obscuring the view.

although this building looks quite stunning in these photographs i have to wonder how the people of this medieval town feel about it. if i lived there i would not be happy.

i love the building. it's engaging and for some reason i feel it quite well framed with landscape. about the interiors, i don't think they've the uau factor.
btw i love caudalie products. they're quite popular in lisbon (but not in london). i would definitely love to spend a long weekend in there recharging batteries.

Wow, that is one terrific building. I'm sure there are people that protested when this was built, but considering how most hotels tend to look the same from the outside (and occasionally inside), I think this is pretty fantastic. Not to mention that when Gaudi started out, people freaked as well. Love the angular windows as seen from the inside...
