La Biennale di Venezia 2009- Artek

Cafeteria

Did you know....
The Finnish Pavilion is a pre-fabricated structure designed by Alvar Aalto in 1955 and was assembled in 1956 from parts produced in Finland. The Pavilion is made entirely of wood, and was intended to be used for the 1956 exhibition.

Artek is the sponsor of the 53rd La Biennale di Venezia International Art Exhibition, which opened on June 07th and will close on November 22,2009. Artek designed furnishings for the Palazzo delle Exposizioni della Biennale, a bookshop, cafeteria and additional furniture for an educational area.

Artist Tobias Rehberger won first place for the cafeteria he designed in collaboration with Artek. Rehberger was awarded the Golden Lion as best artist at the 53rd International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia.

i don't know peter max but yes it does remind me of paul smith and very early esprit designs. I have a blouse with the similar geometric patterns like this rooms from early p.s. design. i also would say wow, wow, wow! this does not look finnish at all but it is good for a change. you've been showing much color lately? you feeling ok?:-)just kidding charlie it's nice to see different things from people you like. better not to become too predictable in life.

Diana, You hit the nail on the head, it's groovy baby:-)

Hanna, You are funny, I don't know why I am showing more color? Hmmm, have to think about that.

It is my understanding that Artek did not design these spaces they collaborated with the designers and manufactured furniture according to their specs. The designs are the vision of the artist hence why it appears to be such a huge departure for Artek.

Have a great weekend!
