Problem Fixed Baby...I Hope

I have temporarily removed the Blogger Follower and Google Friend Connect Widget, as it appears to be the major cause behind most problems on this blog. As you see I had to delete my old template as well. It was disappointing and terribly sad, but it had to be done. I hope that starting from scratch and removing a few widgets will bring these problems to an end .

If you are using a blogger template and having similar problems you should check out Known Issues for Blogger, as they seem to have known about the problem with these widgets since 2008. Obviously, these are very popular features and blogger did not want to alarm anyone. All I can say is, back-up your blogs on a daily basis, it only takes a second.

Below are a few things I had to do to fix the problem:

1) Changed template to a traditional Blogger template

2) Remove the "Followers" Widget temporarily.

*Please note: CDD Followers are still there, Followers have not been deleted , only the widget has been removed from the sidebar. If you want to Follow this blog you just have to hit the "Follow Blog" link on the "navigation bar" at the top of the page.

3) Changed my comments from "Embedded below post" to "Full page"

It was brough to my attention that when some readers tried to comment on CDD they received an "Operation Aborted" pop-up. It appears that not all readers were affected but enough that I noticed a significant (14%) drop on my stats in a 2 week period.

4) Removed and re-installed the Sitemeter Reader

I hope these changes will help permanently, but please keep me posted- Let me know If you have any problems when visiting CDD, as I don't see what you see on your end.

Mikko, Seppo and Katarina for your help in resolving these issues! I thought I was a cracker-jack fixer-upper(maybe not) but then I saw you work....You are all awesome!

Christy said...: You're not the only one having major problems this week. I've read that if you move the followers widget to the very bottom of your page, that might help. Also - maybe ask a web designer for help? I have a designer and she's been a great help to me.

I had a team working on it, they have been awesome one of the guys is a blogger guy. What irked me most was that the have known about this problem since before the launched it but they decided to do it any way. It has wreaked havoc on my network.
