From Finland With Love

These pictures are from my family album...I love this cabin !
Back steps leading to the lake
It is Midsummer's Eve in Finland. During this day and night a stillness comes over the country like nothing you've ever seen or heard before. I am sure that visitors walking out of their hotels must wonder what the heck has happened to everyone.

It is spooky... all the shops close at noon today and do not open for several days. Everyone heads out to the countryside to celebrate the summer solstice, leaving the cities empty. After this day the nights start to darken once again, although we still have many weeks of white nights.

It's raining today, so I really hope we can have a bonfire tonight...for the kids sake

Midsummer Bonfire

Happy Midsummer everyone and have a lovely weekend!

Enjoy!

Oh, Charlie, this is pretty much the cabin of my dreams. And you paint a positively magical image of summer in Finland. I think it must be heaven on earth. Enjoy your white nights!

Have a wonderful Weekend Charlie ! I hope you get your bonfire too. It reminds me a little of Algonquin park here in Ontario.

Happy Summer Solstice

Gorgeous photos! Were these taken near Helsinki or elsewhere? I'm actually really glad I found your blog, because I'll be going to Helsinki (and therefore Finland) for the first time later this year. I'm definitely going to go through your blog for inspiration. Really excited about it already, even if it will probably be freezing cold in December, but I don't really care :)

Hi Charlie,
great pictures of a special midsummer night.

I see you celebrate the way we do...the city is empty...shops are closed...the weather is chilly and wet.....but still you are with family and friends.

We watched a magic sun set in heavy rain over a misty sea...stunning scenery, today it rained so hard that the streets are flooded in water.

I would very much like some warm sun on my face!

with love from Sweden
