Marimekko Flair

Come and discover the new and improved Marimekko lifestyle collections. These last two collections are my absolute favorite, especially the one above. From home accessories to the socks on a child's feet it is pure Marimekko. Definitely puts a smile on my face and worth a peak for all Marimekko lovers out there.

I love these images! They have done an amazing job redesigning this company. After every show I walk away cheerful and wanting something I've seen there. I always think that's a good sign, being that I only have an eye for black or white. So when color catches my fancy I always stop and take notice. Tomorrow I will bring you the Spring/Summer 2010 Collections.

Have A Lovely Weekend

I adore this photo!

Last weekend the weather guy said we were getting snow- well it didn't happen. I've been waiting and waiting and finally I think it's finally going to happen! So to prompt things along (I'm desperate, it's dark and out there) I am posting these stunning images of the Oulu University Project by Todd Saunders.

" This project was a two-week workshop in Northern Finland for the International exchange students at Oulu Architecture School. The class consisted of 21 students from 14 different countries. Three days were devoted to experimenting with diverse forms through model building. We spent seven days constructing the chosen form from. The last days of the course students chose sites where they would place the project for a short period of time to see how the project would respond to a place or the people using the project. Finsk Shoes SS 2010 Collection

These wonderful shoes are by Julia Lundsten the designer behind the Finnish shoe label FINSK. Last season I did a post on her designs (see here) and I was pleased with the response. Many loved the collection and some of you managed to locate your favorite in your area.

These collections for Port 1961 and Basso & Brooke SS-10 are even more fabulous than the last! The sculptural heels carved from Finnish birch is still much a part of her design and is very prominent in each collection. However this season she also designed more traditional styles for the more conservative among us and the results are fab.

Beyond Borders Wednesday- Donna Karan

Zen Style

This is the wonderfully zen New York City apartment of design icon Donna Karan. Ms. Karan has created an empire with her chic, well tailored and wearable designs. Her Upper West Side apartment, with sweeping views over Central Park is spacious and tranquil. It's a retreat from her hectic days in the fashion industry.

Architect Bonetti Kozerski worked closely with Ms. Karan to create a gorgeous, peaceful retreat. The black and white color palette adds a spa like feel to the apartment. It's wonderful to see that her simple, less is more approach carries into all facets of her life.

Donna Karan's Hampton Estate is just as fabulous and serene as her New York City apartment. Both of her New York State residences have a that casual Asian style she obviously loves so much. I can easily visualize the goddess of chic walking around this place.

Colorful Play Areas

I love all the bright cheerful colors of the rooms and furniture. The furniture is light weight and easy to maneuver (by the little ones) and keep clean. These colorful play areas were designed to encourage creativity and confidence and help develop social and physical skills in children as they play. Parents can join in or they can watch their child from a sitting area.
